Data Mining

Data Mining involves the search for patterns in data and the application of statistical methods to identify the patterns. The discovery of such patterns and the corresponding conclusions can convey very helpful information for decision-making and optimization of processes. The often large data sets (high number of cases and variables) and the type of approach to identify new relationships in existing data sets makes it difficult to specify a priori hypothesis. Data mining methods should work without many a priori assumptions or at least keep them a a minimu level.
Typical data mining methods are: clustering analysis, Classification and Regression Trees and Neural Networks as well as other classical multivariate statistical methods.
